A couple of quick questions. Is it necessary to sand the wood ties down to about the same thickness as you would normally see on say a piece of Peco flex track or even the PC board ties used in the fixtures? Or just enough to make them all a uniform hieght? I would guess it doesn't take much to sand those little "sticks" down at all, however I just thought I'd clarify. I imagine once the ties are ballasted, you won't see what's hidden beneath them. Lastly, what is the recommended grit of paper for sanding the ties? |

Just sand enough to level and smooth out the tops. You really want the extra height - especially at the points throw area. I use a 120 grit paper on a longish block to get it all leveled up. (I also do the post sanding staining rather than using paint latter). |

One thing you might want to get is a T-sanding bar. You can find them in the R/C section of the hobby shop. I have two (one 11" and one 22"). They come in handy for more than aircraft wings. They are perfect for evening out the tops of RR ties. -G- |
