Post subject:  TRACK WIRING SIZES
HELLO,

I am ready to start wiring my Layout. I have found plenty of infomation regarding power buses and track feeders and how to connect everything up. But all of the infomation refers to the wire sizes as 12 AWG or 22 AWG for example. Can any one tell me the metric equivalent of the AWG sizes ?

Also what wire size would you recommend for Tortoise motors ?

12 AWG ~= 2,0mm
18 AWG ~= 1,0mm
22 AWG ~= 0,6mm

For Tortoise - the 0,6mm +/- wire will be plenty for most short run hookups. They draw only about 15 Milli-amps (0.015 amp) in stall and 4 Milli-amps (0.004 amp) in action. You would not want to have hundreds of feet (25+ meters) of hookup run - keep it closer to about 2,5 meters max, or go to a larger wire (0,8mm +/- would be fine).

Note a 3 amp +/- 9volt power source can handle (in theory) ~ 200 Tortoise units! However, wiring runs and switches can affect power distribution - so plan on about 150 units with 3 amps.
